September 8, 2026 - Charlotte, NC - Charlotte Independence Soccer Club (CISC) proudly congratulates Jay Lockhart as he takes the next step in his coaching career by joining the new USL League One franchise in Long Island. His role with the organization will be announced by the team at a later date. "During the 12 years I worked with the Independence in both the Youth & Professional teams I have been given opportunities to be involved in all levels of Soccer. This is something I think the club is rightly proud of being able to provide and I’m really appreciative of. I am excited to be joining a new USL organization in Long Island. The opportunity to join a new franchise is something that I feel is the right move for me. I am really grateful to everybody at Charlotte Independence for how I’ve been treated in my time at the club. I wouldn’t be able to thank all of the people that have helped me and been patient with me when I’ve needed them to be. I wish everybody the best and I’m excited to see how the club continues to grow and the players progress. I loved my time at Independence and want to thank all of the players, coaches and parents for everything," said Jay Lockhart. Jay’s impact within youth soccer has been instrumental throughout his tenure, dating back to his time with Discoveries SC. Over the years, he has coached across several programs within the club, including Girls Regional Academy South and Girls Pre-Girls Academy. He has also served as an assistant coach for the Charlotte Independence II Men’s USL League Two team and as a Video Analyst for the Charlotte Independence USL League One men’s professional team. When not coaching his teams, Jay could often be found at Manchester Meadows giving back to the Rock Hill community through TOPSoccer. TOPSoccer is a recreational sports program for children and adults with intellectual, emotional, or physical disabilities. The program provides individuals with diverse abilities the opportunity to play soccer in a structured environment that is safe, fun, supportive, and inclusive. “Jay Lockhart has been an exceptional staff member for our club since our inception," said Charlotte Independence Soccer Club Director of Soccer Neil Roberts. "He is a dedicated coach with a strong soccer IQ and a tireless work rate. We will miss Jay around here for sure. Having said that, we all want to wish Jay the best of luck in his new endeavor. His new group is lucky to have him.” Charlotte Independence Soccer Club would like to thank Jay for his dedication, hard work, and commitment throughout his 12 years with the Independence. His experience across both the youth and professional sides of the club has allowed him to make a lasting impact on countless players, coaches, and families. We wish Jay the best of luck as he takes the next step in his coaching journey. We know the experience he gained throughout his time with the Independence will serve him well as he begins this new opportunity. Thank you, Jay, for everything you have given to the club and for helping create an environment where players could develop, be themselves, and most importantly, enjoy the game.
