A Letter to My Team: Fall 2022 State Champions & Finalists

Fall 2022 will forever be remembered. Why? The Girls 2005 South Matthews Blue, Girls 2006 North Meck Blue, and Girls 2007 Lake Norman Blue won State. Plus, the Girls 2007 York County Blue and Boys 2008 ECNL Regional League South were State Finalists. All terrific achievements that the Independence Community is proud of. 

 

Players took the time to write letters to their team about this memorable experience. Read how their season went from their point-of-view. 

 

 

- Liza Bray - Girls 04/05 Matthews Girls Blue

I am so proud of how our team has improved over the last few years and our ability to play well with one another, even when the stakes are high. I believe our connection and friendship we have built on and off the field is one of the reasons why we won State. We were able to play for one another and work hard at training as a team. I am very excited to see how far our team can go at Regionals this year, and hopefully make another Nationals appearance!

 

- Emily Hernandez - Girls 04/05 Matthews Blue

I am so proud to be a part of the 04/05 Matthews Blue Girls’ team. This team has given me some of my best friends and memories. Our relationship on and off the field has helped us defeat all odds of winning Regionals last year as a wildcard and coming in second at Nationals. The entire experience of State Cup, Regionals and Nationals has been one of my most proud and favorite moments. I'm looking forward to how far we go this year!!

 

- Lillian Jobe - Girls 04/05 Matthews Blue

Being part of the Matthews Blue 04/05 team has changed my opinion on soccer completely. Our team’s relationship as a whole on and off the field is something I've never been a part of with previous clubs before. Having awesome coaches and teammates who care has really motivated me to want to develop as a player. Our team has proven that we are capable of overcoming anything, beating ECNL teams, making it all the way to Regionals and Nationals. I am so proud of all of us and super excited to see what we can do this year at Regionals!

 

- Kendall Bauer – Girls 07 Lake Norman Blue

I feel like this was a great team bonding experience. The ability to come together and persevere through all challenges thrown at us resembles that bond we have created since the start of the season. Our coach helped encourage us because he believed in us, and because he believed in us, we believed in ourselves.

 

- AuBrie Pulaski – Girls 07 Lake Norman Blue

It felt so amazing when we won the Kepner Cup qualifier. I didn't think that feeling could be beat, but then we won the NC Kepner Presidents State Cup Final. It felt like I was dreaming. I do realize that some moments in life only happen once. After we won, I remember taking the time to look around at the entire complex to not only absorb the moment, but also to thank God for his good grace. He gave me the ability to play soccer and he led me to this team. I continue to look at photos and videos of that day to remind myself that we really won! Regionals, Here We Come! Go CISC (Lake Norman). 


- Alaina Kilpatrick - Girls 2007 York County Blue

I have been at this club for 2 years. I have put a lot of my time and effort into this program. My coaches have been very dedicated to help make our team better and each individual as well throughout the season. My coaches have always been there for me when I needed them most. They have taught me many skills to use on and off the field. Like, I have learned how to be a better leader for my team. The environment that the club has built is very organized and established. The coaches care abouttheir players and respect them. I have changed so much from being in this club and it has been a great experience overall. One of my favorite parts about being on an Independence team is how much chemistry our team has as a whole. All the players respect each other and uplift one another and is why I am proud of the accomplishments we had in becoming State Finalists. The club is very devoted to the growth of all their players and puts us in a position to succeed. These are the many reasons why I am proud to be a part of Independence and the York County Blue. 


- Efrain Tirado – Head Coach Boys 08 ECNL RL South

A season’s journey can take many twists and turns. Athletic teams have to navigate injury, illness, poor form, the questions that opponents ask of them on match day, and the whirlwind of thoughts that can prove to be a hindrance or an asset. The 2008 ECNL RL South had a successful Fall 2022 SCYSA PMSL season. They were unbeaten in league play and earned a birth in the semifinals of the SCYSA President’s Cup. They were tested in that match and had to go to overtime to get the victory and an opportunity to play in the Championship match. In the final adversity was a central theme. They found themselves down but kept working and showed the heart of a champion in the way that they made the match close. In the end, their first loss of the SCYSA PMSL season would be in the President’s Cup Championship. The Fall SCYSA PMSL season was a journey worth taking. Cheers to the team!

April 17th, 2025 - Charlotte, NC - Charlotte Independence Soccer Club (CISC) promotes Brian Udy to Director of Boys Regional Academy South. “I am very excited to accept the Director Boys Regional Academy South position,” said Brian Udy. I look forward to playing a larger role for Charlotte Independence Soccer Club as we migrate to MLS NEXT and the National Premier League, and all that goes with making such a great move for our players and their development.” Brian joined Independence Soccer back in 2024 where he started to make an impact within the Boys York County Youth Academy. During the 2024/2025 season, he coached the 2025 the York County Youth Academy and the 2015 York County Blue. Brian was also involved with the Boys 2011 ECNL Regional South team, which will be rebranded as the Boys Regional Academy South program starting this fall. “Brian has been exceptional on and off the field since he started with us. He is a strong professional who is dedicated to player development and really takes the time to make sure his players and families enjoy their experience at our club,” said Charlotte Independence Soccer Club Director of Soccer Neil Roberts. “I am very confident that he will lead the Boys Regional Academy South in a very positive and productive manner. We are excited to benefit from Brian’s leadership!” The Boys Regional Academy South program will participate in the National Premier League (NPL). The leagues schedule benefits Independence Soccer players who live in South Carolina. Players will now be able to participate in High School Soccer without conflict from club soccer. Monday, April 14, 2025 - Charlotte, NC - Charlotte Independence Soccer Club is thrilled to announce the expansion of the Youth Academy program to the Town of Tega Cay. Expanding our Youth Academy into Tega Cay is an exciting step for our program and for all wonderful players and families in that area," said Director of Youth Academy Mike Barroquerio. "With a deeply rooted soccer community, Tega Cay and the Charlotte Independence Soccer Club Youth Academy is sure to be an incredible partnership. We’re excited to grow new relationships with all our friends in Tega Cay.” The Youth Academy is the initial step into the Player Pathway towards our State, Regional, and National Competitive Programs. April 10th, 2025 - Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Independence Soccer Club (CISC) promotes Mike Barroqueiro to Director of Youth Academy. In his new role, Mike will also continue serving as the Director of Mooresville. “ I am extremely pleased Mike will lead the Youth Academy Program,” said John Tart. “Mike demonstrates all the qualities necessary to grow the program and to create a wonderful environment for our players, parents and coaches. He will communicate a strong vision that will enhance the YA Program and the further development of our young players! ” Since joining the club two years ago, Mike has overseen the growth and development of the Mooresville soccer programs, which include recreational, youth academy, state and regional levels. As Director of Mooresville, Mike took the initiative to introduce soccer to new players through current club programing such as Soccer is Fun Clinics and Youth Academy Experience Days. The increased participation across all programs is a testament to Mike’s ongoing commitment and dedication to the Mooresville families and community.

April 4 th - Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Independence Soccer Club (CISC) promotes Ciara Barnes to Director of Girls Regional Academy South. “Providing the best soccer experience is essential to a player’s development,” said Ciara Barnes. “The relationships I’ve built with our York County families have prepared me for success in this new role. I look forward in supporting our players in South as we embark on this new journey, joining the Girls Academy Aspire League for its inaugural season this fall. It’s time to get to work, and I couldn’t be more excited for the future of girls’ soccer!” Ciara has been with the club going on eight years, contributing to the Girls ECNL Regional League South program. As the program prepares to brand as the Girls Regional Academy South, it looks forward to joining the Girls Academy Aspire League this fall. During the 2024/2025 season, Ciara coached the 2011 and 2012 Girls Regional Academy South teams while also assisting with the Girls York County Youth Academy. Additionally, she is dedicated to making an impact through TOPSoccer, a program supporting players with disabilities. “ We are excited to have Ciara take on a leadership role at the club. Her knowledge of the game and connection with the players and families in our Girls Regional Academy South is deep rooted and strong,” said Director of Soccer Neil Roberts. “I am very confident that she will extend the growth and opportunities for our players as we head into an exciting season with the Girls Academy Aspire program. ” ID Sessions for the Girls Regional Academy South will be taking place Wednesday, April 9 th at Manchester Meadows. March 26 th - Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Independence Soccer Club (CISC) announces a new partnership with Nucor Corporation, the largest steel producer and largest recycler in North America. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Nucor will be a primary presenting sponsor on new uniforms starting for the 2025-2026 competitive season and additional youth programming. “Strategic partnerships are essential to realizing our vision of providing exceptional experiences for our members,” said Charlotte Independence Soccer Club CEO Thomas Finlay. “While Nucor and our organization may operate in different industries, our missions align closely as industry leaders committed to making a positive impact. We're thrilled to partner with Nucor, while we look toward a future where we can continue to empower and uplift the children and communities, we serve together.” The evening with Nucor included Independence recreation soccer games, creating a vibrant atmosphere as parents cheered from the sidelines while the children enjoyed the game with their teammates. Following the matches, families came together for a special presentation ceremony, joined by Independence competitive players who showed their continued support for the community. In line with this dedication, Richard Barry Park was selected to host the festivities on Friday, March 21 st . The park is adjacent to Francis Bradley Middle School and Barnette Elementary, and it is also near Hopewell High, where many Charlotte Independence Soccer Club players attend.
