Independence Staff Complete Coaching Licenses

March 1, 2024

2023 brought many new memories and excitement throughout the Independence Community. Today, we want to acknowledge our staff who took the extra step in their development not only as a coach, but as an individual. What did these coaches accomplish? Obtaining a coaching licenses varying from A-D from the U.S. Soccer Coaching Education.

"I chose to take the step towards getting my USSF Senior A License because it aligns with my professional goals as a soccer coach.

I’ve been pursuing the next level of license since I first started in my early 20’s with an original goal of getting my A before I was 30, missed it by one year! The experience was both very demanding and rewarding. Overall it pushed me to produce work at a higher standard than I was used to through realistic project based assignments that would be needed in a high performance environment. It also allowed me to compare and refine my work against other coaches that are coaching in professional environments at the MLS, USL, and top NCAA programs.

I would encourage all coaches to challenge themselves and seek out different educational opportunities available to them including the licensure through U.S Soccer." - Nick Fusco

"Obtaining my USSF B has been a fantastic experience. During the 6 month process you build professional relationships and are able to experience a variety of learning styles from instructors and other coaches from around the world. The entire process can push you into a zone of discomfort leading to an improvement of coaching, leadership on and off the field, and effective communication." - Colin Gibson

"I pursued my USSF C license for higher understanding of the current soccer landscape in terms of session planning, analyzing data, player periodization, and how to better serve the players I coach daily.

The soccer world is large, but small, and licensing courses allow you to network with coaches all over the country. One of our newest employees, Ian Landeen, was in my USSF C course and he learned about our club, due to connections we made over lunch between sessions. At an event in Charleston, SC, I was surrounded by four coaches from my course that were all coaching against one another. Any opportunity to grow and learn with like-minded people is invaluable.

I would encourage anyone who is interested in growing their knowledge of coaching to pursue continuing their education because the game is always adapting. I'm excited to continue my education with my USSF B license this fall." - Ana Holz

"Recently I received the opportunity to take the USSF D license course where I was able to successfully obtain my license this past December.

For any person interested in pursuing a career in coaching, I highly recommend taking this course. It is designed to put you outside of your comfort zone, and challenges you to plan, create, coach, and analyze your own training session to understand your coaching style, while also understanding the needs of your players, parents, and referees.

Throughout the course, you are exposed to top level coaches and can meet a new group of people to work as a team to advance your coaching experience, while also conducting online lectures that are flexible with you coaching career. The beauty of the hybrid classes.

Personally, I choose to do this because I find it important that if I ask my kids to do the work off the field to become better, I, myself must also hold that same accountability. By taking this course, I have gained knowledge in the development of children, and players that should help me succeed in developing them as athletes. Currently, I’m preparing to move on to my achieve my USSF C license." - Gina Franco

"In the past year I’ve received two coaching license with the support from Thomas Finlay and the Club. Not only did I receive an impactful education, I met a community of coaches who are on the same path as I am. Once you receive your first license you get the itch to take your coaching education a step further to receive another one.

I’m looking forward to furthering my education and develop as a coach!" - Blake Ellis

Congratulations to the following coaches on achieving their USSF Licenses and who already started their next courses!
