Independence Soccer Promotes Nate Friefeld to Manger of Digital Media & Content Marketing

September 18th, 2024 - Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Independence Soccer Club (CISC) promotes Nate Friefeld to Manager of Digital Media & Content Marketing. 


“Nate has been a tremendous asset to our club over the past few years,” said CEO Thomas Finlay. “His ability to connect with everyone who meets him and his exceptional work in capturing the essence of our club are truly unique. Nate’s commitment and passion for ensuring the transparency of our culture through digital media are industry leading. With his new responsibilities and oversight, we are confident he will continue to excel and take his contributions to the next level.”


Nate will oversee the digital media management and execution for Independence programs, which includes our professional partners. His responsibilities also include membership communication, community event coverage, social promotion during tournaments, and maintaining relationships with sponsors and the First Team. 


“Over the past two and a half years, Charlotte Independence Soccer Club has truly become a home for me. The staff, players, and entire community have welcomed me as one of their own," said Nate Friefeld. "I’m excited to keep capturing and sharing everyone’s stories as I take on this new role. Most importantly, I look forward to strengthening the relationships with our players and families, which makes the creative process even more meaningful."


Since joining the club in the spring of 2022, Nate has played a key role in boosting the club’s social presence through his photography, videography, and relationship building. This includes traveling with boys and girls competitive programs to provide media coverage to highlights the youth player experience and promote The Independence Way.


“I always had the interest in working in the digital space but combining that with my passion for sports makes it truly unmatched.” said Nate Friefeld.


Nate earned a Bachelor of Science in Advertising Management from Michigan State University, where he also served as Vice President of Communications on the Interfraternity Council for Fraternity & Sorority Life. In this role, he implemented social media strategies to guide organizations on how to promote on social. Additionally, Nate worked as a freelance photographer, collaborating with MSU Hillel, fraternities, sororities, and other student organizations. 


After graduating, Nate pursued an MBA in the Corporate program at Clemson University, where he discovered his passion for social media. This led him to pursue a Master of Arts in Mass Communication with a concentration in Social Media from the University of Florida which he recently completed in August 2023.

February 25th - Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Independence Soccer Club (CISC) promotes Molly Deal to Marketing and Administrative Coordinator. “ We are thrilled to announce Molly's promotion within our team. Her exceptional creativity, initiative, and skills have already made a significant impact, and we cannot wait to see the remarkable contributions she will continue to make as she embarks on this next phase in her journey with us,” says Sarah Oechslin, Manager of Marketing Engagement and Events. With her new role, Molly will be actively involved in supporting innovative marketing campaigns and projects, specifically concentrating on Camps and Futsal. Additionally, she will take on responsibilities as the key front office assistant in the North. Molly will collaborate on enhancing marketing campaigns and projects, with a special focus on enriching the experience for our members through engaging Camps and Futsal initiatives. “Charlotte Independence Soccer Club has hands down been the best work atmosphere I’ve ever been able to be a part of. Everyone in our club has been so welcoming and friendly, and I’m over the moon excited to be starting my first marketing job here,” said Molly Deal. Since coming on board 6 months ago, Molly has been serving as our North Office Administrative Assistant. In addition, she has been contributing as a Marketing intern for 3 months, lending her talents to campaigns, videography, and photography. Molly earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication from Appalachian State University, where she also minored in English Literature. Molly is passionate about photography and videography and took many classes on the two while attending ASU. She did a study abroad trip to London, UK in the Summer of 2023, where she met with YouTube Music, and Spotify promotional leaders and learned about Marketing and Promotional techniques. “I got truly lucky to find a job that was willing to invest in me fresh out of college while treating me like family,” said Molly Deal .

"Over the next few months, we’ll be announcing several players joining us for the new season. The league provides an excellent platform for collegiate athletes, offering a professional environment that challenges their abilities and helps them prepare for their upcoming college season. Our professional coaching staff will be coming to your community to teach you the game, give insight about the club, and most importantly, have fun! Come out for a soccer-filled day and learn more about Charlotte Independence Soccer Club! Clinics at Richard Barry Park and Mazeppa Park are offered to ages 2-10. Clinic at Manchester Meadows is offered to ages 4-10.

December 9th - Charlotte, NC - Charlotte Independence Soccer Club (CISC) promotes Nick Fusco to USL League Two Head Coach. Previously, Fusco served as the Charlotte Independence II Assistant Coach during the 2024 season. In addition to his role with the team, he is the Boys North Meck Director for Charlotte Independence Soccer Club and coaches the Boys U14 and U17 ECNL teams. “We are incredibly excited to promote Nick to the head coach position for the USL2 team,” said Independence ll General Manager Greg Ashton. “Nick is a talented young coach who has gained experience coaching at the college and ECNL club level. Last year he was an assistant with the USL2 team which provides a base to grow and provide leadership in the extremely competitive USL2 League. Nick has been very diligent in continuing his coaching education through US Soccer and will have the opportunity to continue to push himself in this challenging league.” Fusco brings collegiate coaching experience, having been named Interim Head Coach for the Johnson & Wales University Men’s Soccer team during the 2023 season. Under his leadership, the Wildcats achieved an impressive 14-1-5 record, secured the #1 overall seed in the USCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Tournament, and successfully defended their title as USCAA Division II National Champions. “I am more than excited to get to work with some of the best players in Charlotte as well some of the top players from around the country in the college ranks,” said Nick Fusco. Massive thanks to the Charlotte Independence for entrusting me with this role in the club. I’m looking forward to providing a top-level environment for the guys to compete in during the Summer here in one of the best cities in the country.” Fusco played four years of college soccer, spending his first two seasons with the Darton State College Men’s Soccer team before transferring to Point University to complete his collegiate career.
